The United Cajun Navy deployed to the island to help with recovery efforts once the storm passes.

Melissa is a monster hurricane, maintaining Category 5 strength ahead of landfall.

The storm is close to breaking a pressure record and has sustained winds of 185 mph.

The slow-moving storm will wreak havoc on the island for days.
