SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) - The South Carolina Department of Public Health confirmed eight new cases of measles in Spartanburg County since Friday.
The new cases bring the total number of confirmed measles cases in the state to 33, of which 30 are tied to the Upstate.
The new cases were linked to close contacts of people previously confirmed to have the measles who were quarantining at home.
Over 150 students, all from Global Academy and Fairforest Elementary School, were previously under quarantine due to the outbreak. Students were able to return to school last week.
The outbreak was initially reported in July, and has grown to over 25 cases in the state, with 22 cases confirmed to have originated from Spartanburg County.
