IDAHO COUNTY, Idaho — An iPhone crash detection alert helped first responders locate and rescue a driver after a vehicle slid down an embankment of Highway 95.

According to the Idaho County Sheriff’s Office, dispatch received the automated 911 call around 9:50 p.m. on October 25. The crash detection feature indicated a possible collision just south of the White Bird Battlefield parking lot near milepost 227.

An Idaho County deputy responded and found the vehicle about 500 feet down the embankment. Crews from the Grangeville Mountain Rescue Unit, Syringa Ambulance and Extrication, and the Salmon River Fire Department worked together to reach and rescue the driver.
