SOUTH SIOUX CITY, Neb. (KTIV) - The new South Sioux City Police Chief, Steve Heide, was sworn in Monday, Oct. 27, at a council meeting.

Lance Hedquist, South Sioux City’s city administrator, tells KTIV that Heide was a lieutenant with the South Sioux City Police Department before becoming the chief. He has served with the department since 1987 and was the previous chief for Dakota City in the 1980s.

According to Hedquist, Heide was also a deputy with the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office from 1989 to 1992 and has participated in various training programs.

Heide, who is a South Sioux City resident, has stepped into this position after the retirement of Ed Mahon , who served for more than four decades in service to the city and its residents.
