A Winnipeg woman says she was sent home from Health Sciences Centre (HSC) after a motorcycle crash with a broken leg that went undiagnosed for two weeks — a delay that she says caused months of pain, complications, and lost work.

Amber Ongenae said the ordeal began last year when she was struck in a no-fault collision at about 50 km/h. A car pulled out in front of her, leaving her no time to stop.

“I was told later that I went straight up into the air and flipped a few times,” she said. “I woke up flat on my back in the middle of the road just as EMS was arriving.”

Paramedics took Ongenae to Health Sciences Centre, where she spent about five hours in the emergency department. After being told she could leave, she tried to stand up — but couldn’t.
