U.S. News and World Report recently released its ranking for 6,998 elementary schools and 23,328 middle schools across the U.S. (There's some overlap. 5,411 campuses ranked in both lists.)

The site used data from the U.S. Department of Education to consider "their shares of students proficient or above proficient in their reading/language arts and math state assessments. Half of the formula assessed just the scores and the other half incorporated the test results in the context of socioeconomic demographics."

The goal was to highlight high-achieving schools that are succeeding with all students.
