A Coweta County jury has convicted a Sharpsburg man of raping and sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl, sending him to prison for the rest of his life with no chance of parole.

Senior Superior Court Judge Ben Studdard handed down the sentence Thursday after jurors found 40-year-old Brett Tyler Brown guilty of rape, aggravated sexual battery, sodomy, sexual battery and multiple related charges. Prosecutors invoked Georgia’s recidivist statute due to Brown’s prior felony convictions, requiring the maximum sentence.

According to the Coweta Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office, Brown had access to the victim through a relationship with her mother. Over a two-day period in March 2020, Brown provided the teen alcohol laced with pills until she was incapacitated, then sexually assaulte
