LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- A Las Vegas war veteran who once shut out the world after returning home is now finding peace and purpose thanks to a horse named Jerry and a community that believed in him.
A Southern Nevada horse rescue called "For the love of Horses" is a unique form of therapy to help veterans deal with stress, trauma, and other mental health concerns.
While also combining the power of music, something veteran Orlando Cota said helped him rediscover hope.
"I just noticed there's a lot of similarities between the horses and veterans, and we can recognize when there's things going on, it helps us to ground ourselves," Orlando said.
For years, Cota lived in silence. After returning home from deployment, he isolated himself from everyone and everything.
