AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) - The Nexstar Media Charitable Foundation and KAMR Local 4 News announced it will donate $5,000 to the Friends of AJ Swope on Tuesday, also known as Local First Responders Day, to support the construction of the Texas Panhandle First Responders Memorial.
As noted in previous reports, the Friends of AJ Swope nonprofit has continued to raise funds to create the Texas Panhandle First Responders Memorial, intended to commemorate the fallen heroes of Amarillo and the surrounding 26 counties.
Since September, the nonprofit has raised $925,000 for the memorial, just $75,000 shy of breaking ground. The memorial will be located at 11th and Polk Street in downtown Amarillo and include the names of more than 100 first responders who have died in the line of duty since 18
