MONTEGO BAY, St. James Parish —
Massachusetts residents in Jamaica are hunkering down as Hurricane Melissa is making landfall on the island Tuesday as a powerful Category 5 storm.
Reggie St. Louis, of Brockton, is riding out Melissa on the fourth floor of a resort in Montego Bay, Jamaica.
"All these trees are going to be down," he said.
St. Louis and his girlfriend were vacationing on the island when their flight home was canceled. Now, they're stuck until the storm is over.
"We are really safe. We are on the 4th floor of an all-concrete resort. So, you know, I feel extremely safe. We got a glass balcony door. That's my only concern, but — other than that — we feel extremely safe," he said.
