WACO — A longtime Harker Heights custodian pled guilty in federal court Tuesday to illegal re-entry into the United States.
Ofelia Negrete-Arriaga, 57, who worked as a custodian at Killeen Independent School District for about 19 years, stood in an orange jumpsuit along with half-a-dozen or more other prisoners at the federal courthouse in Waco Tuesday morning.
She spoke through an interpreter saying she voluntarily agreed to plead guilty to the charge.
Illegal re-entry carries a penalty of up to two years in prison.
The government alleges that she illegally entered the country at Eagle Pass, along the Texas-Mexico border, and remained in the U.S. until Sept. 29, when a “concerned person” made a report against her. Negrete-Arriaga was working at Harker Heights High School when she was
