ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) - Voters in Albany will be picking a new mayor in the November General Election. Two candidates are trying to replace Kathy Sheehan, who is not running for re-election.

One of them is democrat Dorcey Applyrs. She is trying to become the first African American woman to be elected mayor of Albany. Applyrs has held various positions in city government including, chief city auditor and member of the common council.

Applyrs lists public safety as one of her top priorities. She says while the crime numbers are down, people still say they don't feel safe.
