CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - Jury selection began Tuesday in the murder trial of two men accused of killing the co-owner of a beloved NoDa sandwich shop in 2019.

Scott Brooks was killed in 2019 during an attempted armed robbery. He was the co-owner of Brooks’ Sandwich House in NoDa with his twin brother, David Brooks.

Police charged Terry Conner Jr. and Steven Staples with Scott Brooks’ murder.

On Tuesday, Oct. 28, 60 people filled the courtroom, all waiting to see if they would be selected for the trial. Judge Louis Trosch was up front with them about the length of the trial and the publicity surrounding this case.

Mark Jetton, a local attorney not associated with this case, said this is going to be a long process and could likely involve a second round or jury screening.
