The Nashville Banner announced on Tuesday that it received a $1.2 million grant from the American Journalism Project (AJP), a left of center nonprofit that funds news organizations dedicated to issues including "public health," "climate," and "democracy." 

The Nashville news outlet said it was once of three organizations selected to receive a grant this year, and that the money will be used to, "hire four new people to drive audience growth, capture sponsorship opportunities, expand our membership program, and strengthen our overall business operation."
