ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — The Hoo Haven animal sanctuary is preparing to host its largest open house of the year this Sunday from noon to three.

The event, which is free to the public, aims to combine family entertainment with wildlife education, drawing approximately 300 visitors annually.

"Come on out. There's going to be live music. So that'll be entertaining. You can see all the animals. And so it's a good time to see what's in your own backyard," said Karen Herdklotz of Hoo Haven.

Hoo Haven has been caring for animals since 2000, beginning with a visually impaired owl that inspired the organization's name.
