HOWARD, Wis. (WFRV) - After a newborn was surrendered into a Safe Haven Baby Box for the first time in Wisconsin's history, a local fire chief is emphasizing just how important these tools are.
These boxes are built into the side of fire stations and allow parents to anonymously and safely surrender their newborn baby, and there are now seven Safe Haven Baby Boxes in Wisconsin: • Elkhorn • Howard • Racine • Reedsburg • Trevor • Watertown • Whitewater
In January, the Howard Fire Department installed its first Safe Haven Baby Box. Fire Chief Dennis Staeven called installing it the easiest ‘yes’ he's had during his tenure.
