LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - A member of Fern Creek Fire and EMS was honored in Times Square in New York City as part of National First Responders Day on Oct. 28.
Sgt. Aaron Dossey was recognized for saving a drowning child while he was off-duty and on vacation earlier this year.
WAVE News spoke with Dossey after the incident . He said he was on vacation in Cincinnati at an indoor water park when he noticed a boy had gone unconscious underwater and quickly sprang into action. He pulled the boy out of the pool but noticed he wasn’t breathing.
After doing three rounds of chest compressions with the help of lifeguards on the scene, the boy began breathing on his own.
The Pleasure Ridge Park and Fern Creek fire departments recognized him for saving the boy’s life at the time.
