It remains to be seen whether Costco will open up a store in Southborough but town residents on Monday made clear that they want one.

Town voters overwhelmingly approved a change in zoning at 21 Coslin Drive, the selected site for a potential Costco. Of the 783 town meeting members, 771 voted in favor of the change while 12 voted against.

As voting ended, cheers and clapping echoed throughout the Trottier Middle School Auditorium — a clear sign that voters wanted to see the motion pass. Even though the residents of the Central Massachusetts town want to see Costco open a new location there, it remains unclear whether one will be developed.

Members of the Select Board said that the Framingham-based Atlantic Management Corp. is hoping to open the Costco.
