MADISON (WKOW) – Willy Street Co-op is stepping up to help the community as funding for SNAP and FoodShare programs is on track to run out this week.
"We wanted to allow people who are using FoodShare to maybe stock up -- if they were able -- to have some more food to get them through November," said Brendon Smith, the director of marketing communications at Willy Street Co-op.
The store typically runs a 'Double Dollars' program every Tuesday, where for every $5 spent, an additional $5 is given to purchase fruits or vegetables. This Tuesday (Oct. 28), they are stretching those extra dollars further .
"We're offering up to $40 [in vouchers] and we're giving extra Double Dollars vouchers today," said Smith.
Smith shared that the co-op had about 45,000 FoodShare transactions last year.
