ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM)--- Today is National First Responders Day, a day to recognize the men and women who put their lives on the line to keep everyone safe.
"I'd say the best part is making somebody's worst day a little bit easier for them because genuinely, when they call us, it could be the worst day of their life, and we're there to help out and make their day a little bit easier on them," said Adam Kamas, 2nd Assistant Elmira Heights Fire Chief.
Local first responders say they couldn't do their jobs without each other.
"I think it goes without saying that you have to work very closely with your law enforcement partners and first responders," said Bill Schrom, Chemung County Sheriff. There's a uniqueness with sheriff offices and police offices that control the rural parts of the county
