BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) - After undergoing rapid intensification this weekend, Melissa made landfall as a Category 5 Hurricane along Jamaica’s southwest coast.
At landfall, Hurricane Melissa had maximum sustained winds at 185mph and a central pressure of 892mb. This is the strongest storm to ever impact the island of Jamaica. Previously, the 1988 Category 3 Hurricane, Gilbert, held that title.

This storm is historic for all the wrong reasons. Life-threatening impacts are expected across the entire island.
