Billionaire Microsoft founder Bill Gates has taken aim at the "doomsday view of climate change" and called for global efforts to aggressively reduce carbon emissions to be redirected towards economic growth and disease prevention.

In a post to his Gates Notes website overnight, Gates urged COP30 leaders, who will meet in Brazil next week, to make a "strategic pivot" away from the world's focus on near-term emissions targets.

Gates said climate change is a "serious" issue, but that the "doomsday view" was diverting resources away from improving lives in a "warming world".
