DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) - Georgie Campbell celebrated her 10th birthday by making a big donation to the Damiano Center. The nonprofit provides free emergency services to residents needing assistance.

The young girl collected more than 300 blankets to give to those in need when she felt inspired after one of her dance classes. It was in that moment that she noticed firsthand people living on the street, in need of something warm to wrap up in.

“There was this guy in a tank top and shorts, and he was walking around on a cold day. He was wrapped up in a plastic bag because he was so cold,” said Georgie Campbell, the birthday girl. “There was tents, and I thought people were camping, but it was just shelter where homeless people are living right now.”
