TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - The border remains open for business even as the federal government remains shut down.

But that’s only one issue that Nogales produce importers are braving.

The other is if, or when, tariffs could turn up the pressure on their trade.

Some pedestrians expected a long wait coming back through the DeConcini Port of Entry but were pleasantly surprised. Where the impact could be greater is in importing produce from Mexico as the harvest season picks up.

“I went across the border to visit some friends and then bought some stuff at the shop. Candy,” said Lucy Porter, who travels from Tucson to Mexico about once a month.

Porter said that this time she was not sure what her return would be like during the government shutdown.
