Thailand has introduced new drinking laws banning alcohol sales and consumption outside set hours, with offenders facing fines of up to $470 if caught.

Thailand’s beaches and rich cultural heritage continue to attract visitors from all around the world, including thousands of Aussies every year.

The country has recently announced tighter alcohol rules designed to maintain a safe and respectful environment for both locals and tourists.

The changes will allow alcohol sales and consumption only between 11am and 2pm and again from 5pm until midnight.

Anyone caught drinking or selling alcohol outside these hours could face a fine of up to THB 10,000, roughly $470 AUD.

Previously, penalties mainly targeted venues serving alcohol after hours but now customers can also be fined.
