ST PAUL, Minn. — St. Paul police are investigating after dozens of trees were vandalized along Shepard Road last week. Authorities said the St. Paul Forestry Unit filed a police report after receiving multiple reports of tree vandalism, which they believe occurred sometime on Oct. 23.
Police said forestry staff found 32 trees on both sides of the bike trail that had been sawed in half. The damage mirrors a similar incident in the same area last November, when someone vandalized nearly 60 trees and caused $40,000 in damage .
“This makes no sense to us,” Tree Trust Executive Director and CEO Jared Smith said. “It is perplexing to us, and we just couldn’t be more disappointed.”
The targeted trees were planted last fall by St. Paul high school students working for Tree Trust, a nonprofit
