Ratan Tata’s biographer, Thomas Mathew, has expressed optimism that the ongoing rift within Tata Trusts will not escalate into a long-drawn legal battle, saying he remains “hopeful that the flames of distrust today will soon be extinguished.”
Speaking to CNBC-TV18 following reports of Mehli Mistry’s likely ouster from the Tata Trusts board, Mathew said differences among trustees are not unusual during times of transition. “It is normal for trustees to come and go, and it is also normal, when there is a transition, for certain groups to take different positions,” he said, adding that the trustees would ultimately act in the larger interest of the Trusts’ philanthropic legacy.
