LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - Louisiana’s workforce is at a crossroads, reporting that it has more jobs than people.
State and regional leaders met in West Monroe yesterday to find solutions to that problem. They say the state has 114,000 jobs and only 90,000 unemployed residents.
Secretary of Louisiana Works, Susana Schowen says one of the keys to finding those solutions is listening to employers and matching their needs.
“We’re never going to do the right thing if we don’t work with the employers to understand what they actually need and when. And that is the hard part up front. And then we want to make sure that people in the community are aware of what those opportunities are and that we’re able to get them into the programs that are going to get them skilled for those jobs.“
