DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) - Two power outages caused thousands to be without power early Wednesday morning.

At about 1:40 a.m. an initial outage caused over 4,600 customers in the Iowa Quad Cities to be without power.

The cause of that outage is not yet known.

Then at about 2:40 a.m. a second outage caused by an exploded breaker at a substation on Spring Street in Davenport caused more to be without power, MidAmerican said.

The Davenport fire department said firefighters arrived at the substation to find smoke and flames.

Crews were able to get inside and put the fire out, fire officials said.

MidAmerican said it is working to reroute power around the Spring Street substation to restore it.

This is a developing story. KWQC-TV6 will provide updates on-air and online.
