KANSAS CITY, Mo - Families are encouraged to attend a special event at Gladstone Elementary School in Kansas City this Friday.
The event is called Helmet Heads Unite at Gladstone. It is designed to raise awareness for safe riding of bikes and scooters. It will run from 11:30 am to 3 pm and will feature the school distributing and fitting over 400 helmets for students. A traffic garden will be set up in the school's south parking lot for children to practice safe riding of bikes and scooters.
The event will also recognize a Gladstone second-grade students who was struck by a car earlier this fall while riding his scooter near school. The boy spent weeks recovering from a traumatic brain injury and has recently returned to school at Gladstone. His story has led to the school and commu
