Salt Lake City police say a man threw a rock at officers Wednesday morning, and at least one officer shot the man, who was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

Deputy Chief Brandon Christiansen told reporters Wednesday that the shooting death, near the Extra Mile gas station at 2100 South and 300 West, will be investigated by West Jordan police, following protocol when one department’s officers have used deadly force.

The department said earlier in a social media post at about 9:45 a.m. that its officers were involved in a “critical incident.” No details were released with the post. According to FOX13, several lanes of traffic were closed as of about 10:30 a.m.
