SPOKANE, Wash. - Shaw Middle School went on lockdown for a brief period Wednesday morning while Spokane police investigated an alleged weapon on campus, according to Spokane Public Schools.

A message sent from Shaw Middle School Principal Keoni Dang at around 9:05 a.m. alerted families that the school was on lockdown "out of an abundance of caution" while police investigated.

At around 9:25 a.m., a follow-up message was sent informing families that an involved student had been sequestered, and the lockdown was downgraded to a "secure and teach." According to the SPS website, all normal building activities continue during a secure and teach while exterior doors remain locked.
