MAYFLOWER, Ark. — Douglas Hunter, Mayflower's Chief of Police, officially announced his resignation on Wednesday
Hunter made the announcement through the Mayflower Police Department's Facebook account, where he called his service in the community "one of the greatest honors of [his] career."
"It is with a heavy heart that I submit my resignation as Chief of Police for the City of Mayflower," Hunter said in an online post. "Serving this community has been one of the greatest honors of my career."
Throughout the statement, Hunter thanked the citizens of Mayflower for the part they played in making the community both "safer and stronger."
Hunter pointed to "changes and demands" that were made by the city council as to the primary reasons behind his departure.
