COLUMBIA, S.C. (WCSC/WIS) - A second Democrat has officially entered the 2026 campaign to become the next governor of South Carolina, bringing the total number of candidates to seven.

South Carolina state Rep. Jermaine Johnson, who represents both Richland and Kershaw counties in District 52, formally launched his campaign on Tuesday.

In his announcement, Johnson’s campaign states it will be centered on “faith, family, and the belief that every new beginning can lead to a brighter day.”

Johnson became the second Democrat to announce a run in the 2026 governor’s race.
