MISSION, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The Mission Consolidated Independent School District agriculture program has begun a community-wide, green-thumb initiative.

The district says it will give away nutrient-rich manure for free on the last Thursday of each month from 9 a.m. to noon, while supplies last.

The event will take place at the Jose Correa Agriculture Facility located at 1207 W. Griffin Pkwy.

"We're literally turning barnyard waste into garden gold," said Jorge Flores, Mission CISD Career & Technical Education (CTE) Director. "It's a win-win. Our student agricultural program reduces waste, and local families get a cost-free boost for healthier soil and bigger blooms."

The barnyard waste is best for gardens, lawns, and flower beds, according to the district's agriculture program.
