NORTH KANSAS CITY, Mo. —

One of two brothers charged in a 2024 shooting outside North Kansas City High School has pleaded guilty.

Smallwood pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree assault for injuring two victims and two counts of unlawful use of a weapon for knowingly carrying a loaded firearm.

A sentencing hearing is set for Jan. 23, 2026, at 2:30 p.m. in Clay County Circuit Court.

Smallwood and his brother, Michael Smallwood, were charged in connection with a March 2024 shooting that followed an argument outside a North Kansas City High School basketball game.

Both were accused of assault and armed criminal action.
