WALKER COUNTY, Ala. ( WBRC ) - A Walker County judge has dismissed a defamation suit filed against a woman by former Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore .
Moore filed the suit against Beverly Nelson who accused him of sexually assaulting her more than 40 years ago, in 1977 .
Nelson came forward with the claims in 2017 while Moore was running for the Alabama U.S. Senate Seat, which had been vacated by a prior senator. The special election was to take place on Dec. 12, 2017.
According to court documents, approximately a month before the election, Nelson accused Moore of improper sexual conduct through a written statement that the New York Times picked up.
