JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (WGEM) - Before your children knock on a stranger’s door this Halloween, you want to be sure you know what kind of person is on the other side.

Missouri has a strict set of laws registered sex offenders must follow on Halloween, although this will be the second year that they are more relaxed after a federal court ruling. Missouri’s top prosecutor is still pushing back.

Registered sex offenders used to be required to put up a sign saying “No candy or treats at this residence” to warn away trick or treaters. But a Missouri man recently won a court case challenging that law, so these signs will not be required this year.
