A Tulsa program is empowering teen girls to make healthy decisions for themselves.
It’s called Girl Power, and for the last 20 years, it has been in more than a dozen schools.
What Does It Do?
Girl Power engages with more than a hundred teens every year, including students at Phoenix Rising Alternative School.
The groups meet in school once a week. They hear from speakers and community partners, who share health information on their development, relationships and pregnancy prevention.
“We like to do a lot of preventative and intervention things, so letting young people know about different resources can sometimes help them stay out of my system,” said Paula Royce, who coordinates the program with the Tulsa County Family Center for Juvenile Justice.
