PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WMBB) - It's day 28 of the government shutdown, and federal employees are feeling the effects.
On Tuesday night, the City of Panama City decided to provide utility bill relief for those employees who have been impacted by the shutdown for over two weeks.
They decided to extend the relief to those who receive SNAP benefits.
Their accounts will not be closed, they won't incur late fees or have service disconnected from now until 30 days after the shutdown ends.
"We live in a military community. We have a lot of civilian contractors. We have a lot of people that are affected by that. But we also have a lot of people that are affected by SNAP benefits, too. So by implementing this policy, we're able to kind of have a compassionate approach to what's going on in Washingto
