HAMILTON COUNTY, Ohio —
Tens of thousands of Hamilton County residents are bracing for the potential of losing SNAP benefits as the shutdown of the federal government continues.
It's estimated more than 97,000 residents in the county could lose SNAP benefits in November, with an estimated $19 million in food assistance set to no longer be available to local families. Advertisement
Wednesday, Cincinnati council members passed a resolution urging Gov. Mike DeWine and and state lawmakers to use Ohio's nearly $4 billion rainy day fund to bridge the benefit gap amid the uncertainty around funding.
Thursday, Hamilton County commissioners went a step further.
The commission took emergency action Thursday, adopting a resolution that directs additional funding to the Freestore Foodbank.
