HUNTINGBURG, Ind. (WEHT) - Progressing through subjects like math, science, reading, language arts, can be challenging in their own right. Dozens of students at Huntingburg Elementary School are learning those core subjects, but in a second language. Dual Language Immersion, or DLI, is open to students from Kindergarten to 5th grade at Huntingburg Elementary. The program offers subjects to be taught in a second language that best fits a school's population. Huntingburg is 1 of 44 schools in Indiana to offer DLI out of a total of around 1,900 public schools.
Each class consists of 48 students: 24 native English speakers and 24 native Spanish speakers. Students enrolled in the program spend half the day in a classroom speaking only English, and the other half in a classroom speaking only Sp
