SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCBD) - Some local organizations and businesses are looking to help their communities amid the government shutdown, and potential loss of SNAP benefits.
Thousands of South Carolinians may lose their SNAP benefits on Saturday, if the government fails to come to an agreement. Local agencies are working to fulfill the need as they expect a sharp increase in demand for meals. The Summerville Food Bank already feels the strain, as they are trying to feed as many families as they can.
"With 11% of the population in South Carolina on SNAP. It's going to be a pretty significant impact," Abraham Belanger, president of Summerville Food Bank, said. "Our last giveaway, we already had a record giveaway. We served 150 families this past Saturday, so I think we're going to see a big
