NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Major programs that help Nashville families heat their homes and put food on the table will run out of money in a matter of days, leaving thousands without assistance as temperatures drop into the 30s.
The Metro Action Commission (MAC) said sign-ups were supposed to open Saturday for the new program year of the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) that 10,000 Nashville families rely on every winter.
That’s not happening without federal grant money being withheld from states during the government shutdown. People needing help paying their utility bills will be added to a waitlist as the funding crisis unfolds.
