When Jamilah Prince-Stewart got a call last week that her stepson studying in Jamaica needed to evacuate to Barbados, she didn’t have many details — only that it was urgent.

“I didn't have much information. I just heard the word evacuation, and we were putting steps in place in order to get him there,” she said.

After the storm hit, Prince-Stewart, who is from the Caribbean, knew she wanted to help. She partnered with the Jamaican American Connection (JAC) to support its donation drive.

The organization does a lot in the community, she said, including helping students who are from, or studying in, the Caribbean.
