CLAY COUNTY, Mo. (KCTV) - The Clay County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a scam that has flooded the department with calls from concerned residents. The agency reports receiving at least a dozen calls per day over the past month.
Scammers are calling residents claiming to be sheriff’s deputies and telling them they have warrants for missed jury duty. The callers are using fake court documents and the names of actual deputies to make their claims appear legitimate.
Michael Albertson received one of these calls late Wednesday morning. The person on the phone said he was a Clay County Sheriff’s Deputy and told Albertson he had outstanding warrants for failure to appear for jury duty.
