Officer on way to a call when MPD car struck, killed pedestrian, police say

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A pedestrian was struck and killed by an officer's squad car Thursday night in East Memphis, according to the Memphis Police Department (MPD).

Police said the person was struck by MPD just before 7 p.m. near Park Avenue and Getwell Road. That person was taken to a hospital in critical condition but later died, MPD said.

Police said the officer was on the way to a call at the time of the crash.

Police said the Tennessee Highway Patrol took over the investigation.
