CARMEL- Putnam County Executive Kevin Byrne acted on Saturday to address county lawmakers’ request that the executive add a $150,000 line item to the county’s 2026 budget to address food insecurity .
Byrne said his office had already responded to the Legislature’s correspondence with a letter to fast-track the processes.
“The legislature asked for funding now, not for funding in the ‘26 budget. They did make a separate request during the budget process for a new $150,000 line item for food insecurity in the 2026 Budget. However, that potential funding would not be accessible until January… so not immediately helpful for the concerns we face from the federal shutdown. Hence, the more recent memo and request for this year,” said Byrne.
