NORTH HAVEN, Conn. — Tragedy in North Haven after an elderly man and an 8-year-old boy died following a house fire, officials said.

The call reporting the fire came in around 12:30 a.m. Monday. The fire happened at a home on George Street, located between Washington Avenue and Pool Street.

According to the North Haven Police Department, when crews got to the scene, they found that one adult was dead inside the home.

During the firefighting efforts, an 8-year-old was rescued from inside the home but did not survive, according to officials.

Four others were able to make it out, officials said.

Fire Chief Paul Januszewski said the man and the young boy were related. They have not been identified at this time.
