DERBY, Conn. (WTNH) — The Childbirth Center at Griffin Hospital has joined the Connecticut Urgent Maternal Warning Signs Bracelet Initiative, according to officials on Monday.

Leaders there said its a statewide program aiming to reduce preventable pregnancy-related complications and deaths.

The program will give postpartum patients an orange bracelet before leaving the hospital. They're asked to wear that bracelet for 12 weeks postpartum- partly as a reminder to themselves to keep track of their own heath.

But the bracelets are also there to alert healthcare professionals and first responders that they are newly postpartum.
